Therapy that works for you.
Taking care of yourself includes taking time for your mental health. Therapy offers a safe space to do that. With the right therapist, therapy can also challenge you to examine the way you perceive the world. At its best, therapy is a path to more fulfilling relationships—with both yourself and others.
This website tells you a little about me and my practice. To see whether we might be a good fit for each other, please reach out to schedule a free 20-minute consultation.
SERVICES
Individual Adult Therapy (50 min)
I hope therapy can be a space to safely explore yourself. Together, we can bring awareness to what’s going on with you now. And when you’re ready, we can explore your past: how it shaped your current self and the way you relate to others. You may think that some parts of you – thoughts, behaviors, or traits – are good, and others are bad. I think they all exist for a reason, but some of those parts may no longer align with your best interests. Let’s challenge your beliefs and figure out what works for you now.

Relationship Therapy (75 min)
I welcome couples, those in alternative relationships and those who identify as poly/kink+. I use an integrated approach combining attachment theory, somatic techniques, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which teaches people how to deescalate from conflicts and explore the underlying feelings that keep them stuck in negative patterns of interaction. I love to work with those in multiracial and interracial partnerships.

Adolescent & Child Therapy (50 min)
For your adolescent or child, I use a variety of approaches that are appropriate for their stage of social and emotional development. For teens, I offer a trusting environment for them to explore and make sense of their inner and out worlds at an incredibly challenging time of growth. For those under 12, I utilize play therapy, which enables children to express their emotions in their preferred way: games, art, and play-acting.

I offer a limited number of income-based sliding scale slots at lower fee amounts than listed above. Please contact me directly to inquire about these.
HOW I WORK
No two people are the same, and I tailor my approach directly to each individual. That being said, I do draw from a number of modalities that I have found work best for my clients. I utilize a combination of Depth psychology, Psychodynamic theory, Gestalt therapy, and Trauma-informed Somatic techniques.
I love diversity in all its forms, and appreciate the beauty and strength that difference offers the world around us. Unfortunately, many people, including a lot of people in power, don’t share this view, and this has very real mental health impacts on marginalized folks. As a Black, multiracial, heterosexual, cisgender male, I strive to offer skilled care in areas like cultural differences, oppression, and racial inequality as well as understand the unique stressors that come from living in a society that oppresses “others”. I welcome and affirm all identities, including LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and all body types.
I specialize in the following areas:
Anxiety
Trauma
Relationships, sex, and intimacy
Career counseling & job-related stressors
Spirituality
Masculinity & gender roles
Racial/ethnic/cultural indentity
Psychedelic preparation & integration
Therapeutic use of music
ABOUT DHYAN
People describe me as warm, supportive, and non-judgmental. I grew up in the Florida panhandle, and moved to the Bay Area in 2015. I currently live in Oakland with my wife, son, and dog. In my spare time, I like to read, run, play piano, discover new music, play tennis, and enjoy the California sunshine.
I graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and from Yale University with a B.S. in Environmental Engineering. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in a variety of roles: as the chief of staff for a high-growth startup, as a consultant for fortune 500 companies, and as a research scientist studying novel water disinfection technologies. These experiences helped me find my passion: building relationships with people to help them unlock the life they want to live.
I have spent many years searching for belonging in different cultures and groups of people, only to find it within myself. I love to work with people of color and hold an intersectional lens in the context of oppression and identity. I value kindness, curiosity, respect, empathy, inner-knowing, cultural humility, transparent communication, and the power of a relationship.
